Willow Planting and Seeding. Area 2 Bridge on Colorado Front Range Trail (CFRT) just below the I-25 bridge over East Plum Creek and the turnoff to Larkspur (Spruce Mountain Rd.). Park in the field just south of the Area 2 bridge. From Upper Lake Gulch Rd. immediately west of I-25 & the RR track, take the 2-track road north to the grassy parking area (see aerial map) Walk the last 200-300 yards north parallel to I-25. Alternatively, volunteers may park in the Larkspur Town Park a mile or so down Spruce Mountain Rd. west of I-25. Staff can shuttle volunteers to the site. Staff will haul the tubeling plants and tools to the site ahead of time. We will cut willows for staking on site as part of the workday. A long bladed (sharpshooter) spade and pruners would be helpful. Staff will have spud bars, some spades, and a power auger on site. This project is to revegetate the area blown out by the May 2023 flash flood. It was repaired last year but could use further restoration. We will be planting willow stakes, seeding grass, and probably emplacing some tubeling shrubs.
